At an open house or a work day there is a code to scan. Good for a gift given while you are standing in front of the house, with the logs in view.
By check
Made payable to Friends of the Latimer House at the William and Martha Brown Park, and mailed to 1578 Latimer Lane, Hendersonville, Tennessee 37075. That is our mailing address, not the house.
Month by month
A standing gift of any size is the steadiest kind of help there is, because it lets us plan the work more than one season ahead. There is a box to tick for it when you give.

A roof and sound sills
The logs came out from under the brick in better order than anyone expected. Keeping them that way means a sound roof over them and sills that carry the weight. This is the work that cannot wait.
Taking the brick off
The veneer comes away by hand, course by course, because a machine would take the logs with it. It is slow, and slow is the only way it can be done.
Inside the house
Paneling on the walls and carpet on the floors, both of them hiding what the house actually is. Taking those back and caring for what is underneath is the other half of the restoration, and it is the half people will stand in.
The yard and the grounds
The ground is part of the house. Grading, planting, paths and somewhere to park, and then the mowing and the upkeep that hold it year after year. A house people cannot reach is a house people will not keep.

We tell it this way every time, and we always end it in the same place, because that is the part which is easy to leave out.
2016
William Brown left five hundred thousand dollars to keep this house standing and to make it the centerpiece of a public park. He was not related to the Latimers. He simply understood what the house was.
The decade after
The money was wrongfully confiscated and combined into a fund it was never left to. An alternate park plan moved ahead that left the house out entirely, and the house stood empty while the work did not begin.
2023
A small group of county commissioners caught it and led the charge to correct it. The money was separated back out and returned to the county in 2025, to the purpose it was left for.
2026
The Commission voted to convey the house and its parcel to this organization, and the deed was recorded on the twenty seventh of August. Codicil No. 1, executed March 17, 2016. Deed at Record Book 6928, pages 761 through 769.

Friends of the Latimer House at the William and Martha Brown Park, a Tennessee nonprofit public benefit corporation. That is the full chartered name, and it is the form to use in the document.

EIN 41-4875485. A 501(c)(3) organization classified as a public charity under section 509(a)(2), effective March 14, 2026.
What a bequest can be
A fixed sum, a share of what is left once everything else is settled, or a particular asset. Any of the three works, and none of them costs anything now.
Without touching the will
Retirement accounts and life insurance policies can name a charity as beneficiary on a form. Talk it through with your own attorney or advisor. We are not one, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Your receipt
Every gift is acknowledged in writing. Gifts of two hundred fifty dollars or more carry the written acknowledgment the Internal Revenue Service requires, stating that no goods or services were provided in exchange for the contribution.

Donor names and contact details are never published, sold, traded or shared without written permission. The board is unpaid, there is no staff, and the charter, bylaws, determination letter and financial filings are available on request.
